Decking the halls and decorating the Christmas tree are part-and-parcel of Christmas, but this is nothing when it comes to preparing the home for the onslaught of family and friends that will pile through the front door.
Christmas is the true party season; a time to celebrate, give, receive and rejoice in the company of those you love. Whilst playing host may not seem like a big deal initially, as the days draw closer the preparation, organisation and cleaning can quickly change your mind!
But don’t worry, Buzz Wood Floor Products, the UK’s leading wooden floor cleaning and maintenance manufacturer, are here to help with their Festive Guide To Guest-Proofing Your Home. No matter what the size, scale and stature of your festivities, by following these simple tips you can stop worrying about the state of your home, and spend more time
Protect Your Floors
Often the most concerning feature for any host, floors can end up stained, damaged or even ruined by spills, dirt and the cluster of shoes swanning their surface. So it’s important to prepare you floor beforehand.
For wooden floors, trusted wood floor adhesive should ensure that your floor is secure. A hard wax oil or lacquer should then be applied that will help preserve and protect the condition of your wooden floor – especially from drink spillages.
With carpet, it is harder to try and protect the floor before, but rapid and effective action in the event of a spill to soak and cleanse the fabric will help stop stains.
With food, drinks and festive treats adorning table tops, the likelihood of a spill is never far away. Lay tablecloths on dining tables, coffee tables, side table and garden furniture to help protect your home from those accidental (and tipsy) spillages.
You don’t have to splash out either with cheap tablecloths available in a range of synthetic or colourful paper materials.
Plates At The Ready
No one wants to be carrying their food around with them in their hands and similarly, a paper plate is about as much use as paper Christmas tree. Situate your plates close to the buffet table and assign an area for sauces, spreads and napkins.
If you don’t want to use your best china, purchase some cheap ceramic plates from your local supermarket and make sure there is enough cutlery to go around.
Spill Kit On Hand
The quicker you react, the less chance there is of a stain. Having spill kits situated around the home will allow quick action with minimum fuss for both the host and your guests. Include a trusted stain remover, kitchen towel and freshening spray in your spill kits.
It’s unlikely that there won’t be a single accident so prepare yourself. Lock away any valuable if you do not want to run the risk of damages giving you peace of mind.
By positioning bins and bin liners around your home, people will be more inclined to put empty bottles, food and waste into the bin themselves. The last thing you want to be doing is picking up peoples ‘empties’ the morning after.
Why not assign different colour in liners for food waste, recycle waste and glass bottles and cans? This will save you time and effort when clearing up as well as allowing peace of mind.
So have yourself a merry little Christmas safe in the knowledge that your home won’t be worse for wear the morning after your festive shenanigans.
